West Vancouver Photographer | Ambleside

It is always a good day when I get to photograph the Smith family.  The kids are super sweet (not to mention cute) and fun to take pictures of.  This week we had a special reason to have a session, wee little Lillian, the newest addition to the family.  At just 6 months old, she is the perfect age to photograph and capture all those cute smiles and chubby cheeks.  It certainly doesn’t hurt that she can sit up but not yet crawl…..no escaping. haha!   We met over the weekend at one of my favourites places to shoot in West Vancouver.  Tall grass, wild flowers, washed up logs & the ocean kinda make up the perfect spot for taking pictures……the sun shining was an extra bonus.  Evelyn & Austin (the older 2) were full of grins & giggles and bounced around letting me catch their true personalities while still capturing the family as a whole unit too.  Evelyn is the same age as my little girl so I can really get to her level and play like a 4 year old……well I can probably do that anytime but who is keeping track 😉  I am so grateful to be able to meet and photograph gorgeous fun families like the Smiths.

I shot this session with my Nikon D800 and the 70-200 2.8 lens…both are my go tos for session alike these…..I love the ease of use of the 800 and the versatility it gives me, especially when I am backlighting my portraits.  The 70-200 has such beautiful bokeh and compression…I wish I could use it for all my shoots.

Granville Island Wedding | Vancouver Wedding Photographer

The first thing Christina & Michael made sure I knew about them was that they hated having their pictures taken…..they threw out words like awkward, painful & grimace…yikes!    I had to make sure that they remembered their wedding as fun and wonderful…..not as the day they had to pose for their dreaded pictures.  When they looked back at their wedding day pictures, I wanted them to see how all their love for each other and what an amazing day they had.   Their special day took place at Bridges at Granville Island, which was such a great choice.  We started out at the Granville Island Hotel where Christina and her bridesmaids got ready.  From there we headed out on foot to meet the boys and get the wedding party pictures knocked off.    I love that they brought their dog Howie in for the pictures – handsome little devil. I shot the day with an amazing photographer, Beth from Little Chickadees Photography.  She was totally on point and helped make the day go smoothly…not to mention the beautiful pictures she took.  She also helped get everyone relaxed and laughing….which is so valuable; I cannot even imagine the day without her.  The weather, oh, the weather….the day called for rain, but it looked like it might hold off long enough for us to get the wedding party pictures done……It did, but just barely.  By the time we had to head to Bridges, it was torrential rain.  The brides’ father had to wield two umbrellas to stay covered.  It was nuts!  Magically after their nuptials the sun came out – we could not believe it. The sun just completed a wonderful day that we were so blessed to be a part of.  Thanks so much Christina & Michael, I look forward to meeting your 2nd baby (after Howie of course ;))

Summer Weddings|Whonnock lake|Maple Ridge Wedding Photographer

When I met up with Cristie and Devan to discuss their upcoming nuptials at Whonnack Lake, I knew their wedding was going to be beautiful.  Cristie has an amazing eye for the little details that make a celebration perfect.  They picked Whonnock Lake as their venue and it totally suited them.  A gorgeous backdrop of a gorgeous lake and stunning greenery around them as they exchanged their vows.  I loved photographing everything about this wedding.  The ceremony was very moving; the groom’s letter to the bride had everyone in tears…..including them 🙂  The father of the bride even had to run up tissues at one point.  The said their vows, put on their rings and were ready to celebrate!  Man & Wife and Happily Ever After.  I was so grateful to be included on their special day, especially at an amazing spot like Whonnock Lake.
