North Van Family Session – Deep Cove

With it’s dramatically soaring mountains and calm ocean inlet as a backdrop, Deep Cove was the ideal setting to capture this North Vancouver family of four (plus their two gorgeous Rhodeisan Ridgeback dogs!).  I love when moody, low-lying clouds dominate…they give a cosy feel to photos, plus great lighting.

There are few things better than getting children outside to have a run around or just enjoy the fresh air (in wee six-month old Thomas’ case!). With a beach location to see and explore, Sam and Thomas were in their element.  Add in the dogs and, well, it was always going to be about the laughter and giggles that escaped from both boys.  With Thomas snuggled up in mom and dad’s arms and Sam leading the way, we roamed the docks, piers, and beach, and captured some beautiful moments.

Of course, home is where the heart is.  Weren’t we lucky to get some photos there as well?! Children are always happiest in their own environment, where they can play with their favourite toys and belongings. What luck, then, that Grandma was visiting from the East Coast.  Happiness and love were evident as the boys played and bonded with her. Thomas was captivated by Sam’s antics and baby giggles dominated as I interacted with this delightful family.  It was the perfect way to capturing what is so important to this family.

When our time together had come to an end, everyone was happy.  This family with two young children, and their loyal canine companions, were a joy to work with.

West Vancouver Photographer | Ambleside

It is always a good day when I get to photograph the Smith family.  The kids are super sweet (not to mention cute) and fun to take pictures of.  This week we had a special reason to have a session, wee little Lillian, the newest addition to the family.  At just 6 months old, she is the perfect age to photograph and capture all those cute smiles and chubby cheeks.  It certainly doesn’t hurt that she can sit up but not yet crawl…..no escaping. haha!   We met over the weekend at one of my favourites places to shoot in West Vancouver.  Tall grass, wild flowers, washed up logs & the ocean kinda make up the perfect spot for taking pictures……the sun shining was an extra bonus.  Evelyn & Austin (the older 2) were full of grins & giggles and bounced around letting me catch their true personalities while still capturing the family as a whole unit too.  Evelyn is the same age as my little girl so I can really get to her level and play like a 4 year old……well I can probably do that anytime but who is keeping track 😉  I am so grateful to be able to meet and photograph gorgeous fun families like the Smiths.

I shot this session with my Nikon D800 and the 70-200 2.8 lens…both are my go tos for session alike these…..I love the ease of use of the 800 and the versatility it gives me, especially when I am backlighting my portraits.  The 70-200 has such beautiful bokeh and compression…I wish I could use it for all my shoots.

West Vancouver Maternity Photographer | Maren

Before this shoot, Maren and I were talking about rescheduling due to weather…..She replied that the shoot was happening on said day even if she was in labour….well, she was having contractions from the start of the shoot till the end.  She is so tough, you cannot even tell that she might be even a little uncomfortable.  She is so gorgeous and all glowy.  I’d like to say this is due to her pregnancy, but really she is like that all the time 🙂  Her hubby Drew is super sweet too and her son….I die, he is so so so amazingly cute.  I just wanted to eat him up….well yo know what I mean.  I cannot wait to meet #2 – he or she is sure to be another stunner.

Something about this picture always made me think of Alvin and the Chipmunks; I couldn’t put my finger on it until I saw the picture of Alvin, Simon and Theodore…..ummm, resemblance much!!
