West Vancouver Family Photographer | Lighthouse Park

photocrati galleryFamily Photos at Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver

This super fun photo shoot was a long time in the making!  I first met Heather when I took pictures of her little guy (now the oldest) at Gymboree.  Jackson had the the cutest little face with the best wrinkle face smile, perfect for pictures 🙂  Our next shoot was in Deep Cove on a gorgeous sunny day and with us were 5!  Added to the bunch were Lucy and baby Noah.  Move to our most recent photo session, and now there are 6!  The newest little bundle is Anna.  Perfect, smily little Anna 🙂  Originally we were going to do a newborn shoot with her but ended up changing it to a family shoot at Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver.  We had such a fun time exploring through the forest and racing down the trails…those kids are fast!  We took pictures all around the forest and then down on the waterfront playing on the huge rocks.  It is such pretty place to shoot and the Patchell family were the perfect family to capture.  I love all the sweet smiles they gave me and the big grins too.  Lucy and I had fun looking for fairies and Jackson was the lead billy coat on all the rock faces.  When we finished shooting on the rocks, we headed back up the trail..clearly all that hiking was exhausting for Anna as she conked out on the way out.  One of my favourite shots is her sleeping in Heather’s arms.  I had a great time shooting this family and can’t wait to do it again…..maybe with baby 5?  😉

I am so fortunate to be able to photograph families that are also friends. Maren is an old friend from our horse riding days and now that we both have kids, I love that we have reconnected at the park while our kids play and throw sand 😉  I photographed her first little guy Gray as a newborn and he was such a beautiful baby.  He has grown up a little and now has a baby bro, Asher.  Asher is equally as gorgeous both as a newborn and now as an almost 1 year old.   We met for this session in West Vancouver, near Ambleside Beach in one of my favourite locations.  It gives a lot of diversity for the images, having beach, fields, tall grass and city backdrops.  I love that I can shoot here either morning or evening and no one is around, it is perfect for family, maternity and even senior (grad) pictures.  The weather was a bit touch and go, but as you can see from the images, it turned out beautiful.  Gray had a blast running around between shots and Asher was happy to hang out in his parents arms.  I made sure to get pictures of all four of them looking and smiling at me, but my favourites are when they just hanging out together.  One of the pictures of Gray totally reminds me of one of my sons’ pictures from when he was almost two, I love it so much it is on my business card…..can you figure out which image of Gray it is?  Anyways I feel so lucky to be able to shoot old friends and see their family growing.  Check out the gorgeous family 🙂

My Favourites | Vancouver Family Photographer

My Favourite Pictures

I love to look back on my work and remember sessions, families and friends made.  I always have favourite shots but sometimes my initial favourite image changes later when I look again.  I might have missed a little look or a small hair twirl, something different will jump out at me down the road.  I find it so interesting to see what my clients choose as their favourites.  It often is the same as mine but when it is not, it really makes me look at the image and see what drew them to it.  Do they see a expression that they recognize and love or is it a new expression….Maybe they just see & feel a connection.  One image that I love of my little girl is of her looking quite upset, see here, but sometimes she is just like that and I do not want to forget.  I always include pictures in my clients’ galleries that are not camera aware, meaning that the subjects have forgotten about me and are just being themselves.  I also love Mums in pictures.  I find that too often we avoid being in pictures because we do not like how we look or feel self conscience, but our kids and loved ones do not see us that way and we owe it to them to exist in images.  I know I love looking back through albums and seeing pictures of my mum and I.  I don’t see her imperfections, I see the love that she had for my sister and me.  That is so special and treasured and I bet some of your favourite pictures are ones just like that right?  So find your favourite pictures and then make sure you exist in them!  Here are a few of my favourites from families I have shot.

Stanley Park-Vancouver Maternity Photographer

Maternity Photographer in Vancouver

My job is pretty cool and being a  photographer introduces to tons of cool and interesting people.  Sometimes it brings back people from years (ok, maybe decades ;)) and I think that is just amazing!  David I went to school together in West Vancouver and lost touch when I changed schools; I knew through Facebook that he had become a pilot, married a pilot (so cool!) and had a few kids……I was so happy when he contacted me to photograph a maternity session for their upcoming 3rd baby.  We met up last week at Stanley Park in Vancouver to take some pictures of the family.  Luckily the rain had ceased for a bit and the cherry blossoms were still out and looking gorgeous.  Their little guys Tim and Rhys were super cute, Tim was into the pictures right away and little Rhys took some time to warm up, but his smile was worth it.  Whenever a child is a little shy, I still takes lots of shots, but I am careful not to get to into their face and give them lots of space (thank you zoom lens).  One of my favourite shots from the day was when Rhys hadn’t yet cracked a smile but sat himself down and gave me the stare down…..I love his expression in this black and white image.  Tim was adorable and a total ham – perfect for getting fun and sweet shots.  I had a lot of fun with this family and can’t wait to meet baby #3…maybe a girl this time?

Vancouver Family Photographer

Vancouver Family Photographer at the beach

I shot this session last fall but it still is one of my favourites. The kids were super cute and fun to play with and their parents were the sort to go with the flow and just enjoy the session.  We met at Ambleside Beach in West Vancouver, which offer tons of versatility and good light….provided mother nature cooperates 🙂  It is a good spot to hang out for the day, there is a concession, washrooms, a playing field, duck pond, playground and a long stretch of beautiful beach.  It actually doesn’t end there though, there is also a par 3 golf course and one of the largest off leash dog parks around.

We met early morning on a gorgeous sunny day and Luca and Mila were happy little campers.  We explored the whole park and got lots of images of them playing on the beach, by the grass field and finally on the playground.  I like having all the options when photographing young children so if they get tired of a spot, we can switch it up and keep them happy and smiling for the pictures.

This is the 2nd time I have photographed this family but the first time was before Mila, so I was really excited to meet her.  She is just as gorgeous as her big bro…they both are going to be heartbreakers when they are older!

Check out their images form the day – I hope you love them as much as I do.

Thanks for stopping by 🙂
