West Vancouver Child Photographer | Whytecliff

Being a child photographer is a pretty special job….one that I love.  There is this time in children’s lives that is fleeting and it is so important to capture.  The magic of being able to look back at images and feel the memories they invoke.  The memory of the way they smiled at that age, the way they loved inspecting flowers…and ate them too ;), their shy smile or gregarious giggles can be captured forever.  Forever!  How cool is that?  A child photographer has a big responsibility for sure…..yes you could go to a shoot and take pictures and likely the family will be pleased but you can be way cooler and connect with the family, see them and their love and then have the ability to show that back to them in a magical format that lasts forever.  What?!  It’s true….a print of a moment….a print of your love is priceless.

I met this new family in West Vancouver at Whytecliff park.  Their little guy is a special little soul – he has deep eyes and a beautiful smile.  He loved grabbing the little buttercups and smelling and tasting them – he has the best expressions – smiles and frowns.  His parents, Corey and Bree are clearly so in love and enamoured with him.  Obviously.  They’ll have to look back at these pictures when he crashed the car or talks back for the first time 😉  It was such a pleasure to hang out with these three for the afternoon and I feel so lucky that my job gives me opportunities like this.  Thanks guys for choosing me as your child photographer.  I am so honoured and appreciative.

baby Noah | Burnaby Newborn Photographer

I feel like I knew this little newborn before he was even born.  I first met Kirsten and Wade at their cousin’s wedding – a very fun wedding 🙂 and next heard from them when they were pregnant with little Noah.  We met at Burnaby Beach to capture Kirsten’s maternity pictures and she was just glowing.  It is amazing how pregnancy just adds a certain glow to women.  Kirsten is already a stunner but just extra gorgeous with a pregnancy glow.  A few weeks later, Noah made his appearance and I was super excited to meet this little baby.  Kirsten was worried that he would rebel and not sleep through his newborn session, but he was a total star.  He had his bottle and then settled in to a nice floppy sleep.  We were able to get many beautiful pictures of this beautiful guy.  I love photographing this stage, it is so special.   To capture their little fingers, toes and expressions.  They are still so squishy and moldable <3  Wade is a big fisher so we set up a little picture with a fishing net and rod – super cute!  Knowing that parents can look back on these newborn images and be reminded of the squishiness and tiny features of their children is so fantastic.  What a treasure.  It even means a lot to that baby to grow up and see the portraits of them.  My kids love looking at their baby pictures and are often struck with wonder at how much they grown and changed.  I think they really feel the value and love in these images.  My daughter, Isla often gets a bit teary at how “little and cute” she was (in my books still is ;))  Pictures are our history, our memories and our love.  Start with the freshness of your newborn, you will never regret it.

Backlit family Session

I love sessions with this family – I have been taking their pictures since little Oliver was a newborn.  I love being able to capture a family as they grown and change, it is such a compliment to be trusted to be the one to save these memories for them.  Oliver was the chattiest I have ever seen him and wanted to run and play and giggle…ok, twist my arm.  His happiness shine through these images, just as how much he is loved does. Christine and Will obviously take such joy in him…and who wouldn’t.  He is such a beauty.  We met at a special little spot outside of town that I love to shoot at.  (Thanks Beth & Rochelle for finding it with me)  It is perfect light morning or evening and the surroundings cannot be beat.  The Pacific, a slow river, train bridge, mountains and wild life – yes pls!! We met at about 9am and the sun was just cresting over the mountains, a great time for me as I really like to backlight my images….you may have noticed a few backlit images if you’ve looked at my blog before 🙂  Thanks for checking out this fun session!

West Vancouver Photographer

I think I have the best job in the world..I am a professional photographer. I get to generally make my own schedule, I meet amazing people and create and capture their memories, I love what I do and it all takes place in this gorgeous piece of earth that we live in.  I never lose sight of this and feel gratitude for it daily but sometime I make an image that really, really has all that in it.  It has my love of my job, my creativeness, the beauty of BC and a little magic.  This particular image is even more special to me because it is of my daughter and her best little buddy.  It captured them in a moment of pure bliss, a moment where their little 5 year old minds could barely absorb the beauty around them and it captures them being them.  Life unscripted.  I like to shoot like this anyways, but this was totally them.  Sticking their feet in the cold river, splashing and playing and being silly, forgetting that I am watching them with my camera and just enjoying themselves.  I think these moments are so rare and even more rare is to have an image that we can hold and look back on and think, that was a wonderful day.  I will be printing this picture for both of them and I will hang it on my little girl’s wall so she can see the magic in her and all around her everyday.  I am seriously grateful that I can give her this and to other families too.  Thank you to all my wonderful clients who trust me to capture their magic.

Family pictures at Jericho Beach

When this lovely family told me that they were married at Brock House at Jericho beach and wanted to do their family pictures there this year, I was super excited.  I have shot weddings at Brock House and love it for the natural beauty of the surroundings; I knew it would be a great setting for family pictures too.  The beach there is generally pretty quiet and the views of the city and yacht club are unparalleled.   Shooting there with families and kids is easy – let the kids do their thing and there are sure to be smiles.  Who doesn’t enjoy a gorgeous sunny day at the beach; getting splashed by waves and wading in to your knees?!  These three little dudes loved playing with their parents and running around being little boys 🙂  The oldest boy was ready right away to play and enjoy the beach and  was great about encouraging his younger twin brothers to join him – I bet he is the ring leader at home 😉  Checkout this gorgeous family and the beautiful scenery of Jericho beach in Vancouver.  Thinking of family pictures – this is a perfect place to capture your family.
