I met these three the other day to capture some pictures for a surprise for their Mom’s (and wife’s) birthday present.  I love love love this idea.  What Mom, or parent really, doesn’t want pictures of her loved ones?  Having a tangible memory of their smiles and who they were at this moment in life in so special.  Pictures that she can frame and have on her desk, so when she looks up from her work she can see who she is working for.  Who is being affected by the hours she puts in away from them.  She can see these pictures and feel their love and smile a bit at their smiles.  This gift is so priceless; anyone with a loved one would appreciate it.  Images are like music, they can bring you back to a moment when you can smell, hear and see that experience or time in your life again; this implicit memory of your kids love and also of their personalities.

We met at Jericho Beach in Vancouver to get these shots and right away I was struck by the politeness of these two kids.  Wow!  Gotta love good manners 🙂  Having said that, it took about 2 minutes for them to get comfortable and show me their goofy sides.  They were full of great ideas for pictures but also for fun 🙂  It had rained (torrentially) all day but cleared up for us in true Vancouver fashion.  We had wicked cool skies and great colours for our session.  We shot everywhere from the dock, the beach and the parking lot. True story – only way to get those short lived cherry blossoms in the shots 🙂

I had a fantastic time with there three, they were super easy going and fun.  I’m sure their Mom (wife) will be blown away by this special gift.  Thanks for trusting me to capture them.

Vancouver Newborn | baby Leo

Baby Leo

Ahhhh baby Leo was a dram to shoot.  He was so peaceful and content to be arrange, posed and cuddled by his big brother Oliver.  He was born a bit early and so has the svelte body that all us of dream of 😉 and so super cute.  What a perfect little face he has; he looks just like his big bro!  Photographing siblings is always sweet but these two were amazing….after Oliver took a few pictures of Leo, he cuddled right into him and look at him with wonder and then with smiles.  So so sweet – picture perfect for real.  Those are the moments we as parents want to remember.  How teeny tiny they were as newborns and how in awe their siblings are of them.  They appreciate the little toes and fingers and question every sound their little brothers and sisters make.  Later on, these two will love seeing these pictures of them.  They will be amazed that they were ever that small.  These images will even be shown to their kids…crazy!! It was fun to photograph Leo in similar ways that we shot Oliver, same poses and little hats.  It is pretty cool to see the comparison.  What a great job I have, to hang out with such great families and capture how they are growing and changing.

baby Noah | Burnaby Newborn Photographer

photocrati galleryNoah | Burnaby Newborn Photographer

I feel like I knew this little newborn before he was even born.  I first met Kirsten and Wade at their cousin’s wedding – a very fun wedding 🙂 and next heard from them when they were pregnant with little Noah.  We met at Burnaby Beach to capture Kirsten’s maternity pictures and she was just glowing.  It is amazing how pregnancy just adds a certain glow to women.  Kirsten is already a stunner but just extra gorgeous with a pregnancy glow.  A few weeks later, Noah made his appearance and I was super excited to meet this little baby.  Kirsten was worried that he would rebel and not sleep through his newborn session, but he was a total star.  He had his bottle and then settled in to a nice floppy sleep.  We were able to get many beautiful pictures of this beautiful guy.  I love photographing this stage, it is so special.   To capture their little fingers, toes and expressions.  They are still so squishy and moldable <3  Wade is a big fisher so we set up a little picture with a fishing net and rod – super cute!  Knowing that parents can look back on these newborn images and be reminded of the squishiness and tiny features of their children is so fantastic.  What a treasure.  It even means a lot to that baby to grow up and see the portraits of them.  My kids love looking at their baby pictures and are often struck with wonder at how much they grown and changed.  I think they really feel the value and love in these images.  My daughter, Isla often gets a bit teary at how “little and cute” she was (in my books still is ;))  Pictures are our history, our memories and our love.  Start with the freshness of your newborn, you will never regret it.

Shooting in Seattle – Vancouver Photographer

Shooting in Seattle

Last week I had an awesome job shooting in Seattle.  Sweet!  Seattle is like a second city to me.  As long as I can remember I have been driving across the border to head south for min vacations or day trips…always with my camera 🙂  I love Seattle; it is just far enough away to feel like you’ve gone somewhere and so different from Vancouver, that you really get a unique trip.  I love shooting everything that catches my eye…something I rarely do at home.  Street photography does not come naturally to me, so it is good artistically to push myself too.  I feel like the more I challenge myself with my camera, the better I’ll be with it….makes sense right?!  Anyways, this trip I decided to bring my camera every time I left the hotel and got some cool images.  From iconic Seattle spots like the Pike Place Market and the Great Seattle Wheel, to lesser known spots like Shorty’s and The Upstairs, I shot it all.  I don’t think I’ve taken that many images in a long time…..especially without people!  I mean don’t get me wrong, I still took tons of pictures with people…cause, well that is my favourite thing to shoot…but again, back to pushing myself 😉   The only time I forgot to lift my camera was in the shops..haha…I had serious shopping to do.  Have you seen the All Saints shop there?  To Die For!!  I loved the feeling of this city and I often wondered why Vancouver is not as cool, but maybe if I was a tourist for a day in Vancouver looking through my lens, I might love it just as much…..next challenge I guess…  Thanks Seattle for having me!

Anyways, here are my images from the trip.  I hope you enjoy them 🙂

Lighthouse Park | West Van Family Photographer

photocrati galleryLighthouse Park | West Van Family Photographer

This shoot has been a long time coming….about a year I think.  🙂  But so worth the wait – super adorable kids, fun parents and a Dad tricked into being in the pictures!  That’s all you need folks!

Anyways, we met at Lighthouse park in West Vancouver and were lucky enough to have a gorgeous day.  The trails were super pretty and seeing the Lighthouse is always a bit magical.  We didn’t do many posed pictures but captured the fun, warm, lovingness of this family playing together.  Even the little guy who was super shy at first warmed up enough to smile and hold my hand – heartbreaker 🙂

His sister loved getting her picture taken and had lots of great ideas for them – love littles who collaborate…makes my job super easy.

Enjoy these images, I sure loved capturing them.  Thanks for picking me to be your photographer 🙂
