Family pictures at Jericho Beach

When this lovely family told me that they were married at Brock House at Jericho beach and wanted to do their family pictures there this year, I was super excited. I have shot weddings at Brock House and love it for the natural beauty of the surroundings; I knew it would be a great setting for family pictures too. The beach there is generally pretty quiet and the views of the city and yacht club are unparalleled. Shooting there with families and kids is easy – let the kids do their thing and there are sure to be smiles. Who doesn’t enjoy a gorgeous sunny day at the beach; getting splashed by waves and wading in to your knees?! These three little dudes loved playing with their parents and running around being little boys 🙂 The oldest boy was ready right away to play and enjoy the beach and was great about encouraging his younger twin brothers to join him – I bet he is the ring leader at home 😉 Checkout this gorgeous family and the beautiful scenery of Jericho beach in Vancouver. I was so excited to shoot this little family and when you see them, you’ll get it 🙂 The boys are all blondies and adorable and Mom & Dad aren’t too bad themselves 😉 We decided to meet at one of my favourite locations in West Vancouver, Ambleside Beach. It is such a great spot, you get the beach, tall grass, old wood fences and a local landmark in the background…..Lions Gate bridge. It also works for boys who like to run around and play…..who wants to pose for pictures anyways 😉 All three boys were super sweet, full of mischief and smiles – perfect combo! I really enjoyed photographing these guys – never a dull moment and lots of great images! Win win!! I’m pretty sure we covered all of the beach as we ran and played and took pictures and those boys were still going strong at the end 🙂 So awesome! Another sweet thing is their eyes….beware girls in 20 years…these boys have got killer eyes…all sparkly and cheeky. You can see in each picture of them, the light that catches in their faces and eyes – super special, not to mention their great smiles. Makes a photographer happy 🙂 Obviously I enjoyed this session and the fun we had that morning.

Baby photographer – Madeline

I met little baby Madeline last week and fell in love with her right away. She was a bit older then the newborns I usually photograph, almost a month old and just had the best expressions. So so sweet. Madeline even smiled at her Mama while I was there – between yawns of course 🙂 Obviously both Mom and Dad are already so smitten and I think Dad is totally wrapped around her little finger….The only family member who may not be so keen is their dog…poor guy – but I’m sure he’ll come around once she starts dropping food off her high chair 😉

I really enjoyed this session….it was really neat capturing all her little expressions and personality. She is going to be a heartbreaker for sure – check out those eyes!

Ambleside Beach Family Session

A lovely family session at Ambleside Beach

I was so happy when Carly (momma) agreed to have her latest family session down at Ambleside Beach in West Vancouver. It is one of my favourite places to shoot family portraits, there is just so much to offer in the beauty of backgrounds. We met bright and early and were able to get the beach mostly to ourselves; perfect for two little munchkins wanting to run and around and have some fun 🙂 I always want to the kids to be having fun when I am photographing them, if they’re not, it sure shows in the final images and during the session too. I want to see their personalities and their quirks. If they can run and play and be themselves then, I can capture who they are. That special moment of being 2 or 4, 13 etc…..how they are in that moment in their lives. It is so wonderful to look through images and see the little mischivious glint in their eyes, a shy smile or a big belly laugh, it reminds you of things you might otherwise forget or let grow dim crowded by other memories. Ed Sheeran has a great line in his song “Photograph”, saying, “we keep this love in a photograph, we make these memories for ourselves……where time is forever still”. I love that; not just as a photographer, but as a Mom, a sister, a daughter and a friend. We capture these moments in images that we love at the time, and they can take our breathe away, but ten, twenty, thirty years down the road they will mean even more. We will look back at them at laugh and cry and be reminded of who we were and who our family was at that point in time, we will cherish them and over all objects that own, these will be the most precious. William and Abby will be able to look at these pictures and remember how they played at Ambleside Beach, how they laughed so hard at their parents playing and making animal noises; they will look at these images and remember the smell of the beach and the feeling of sand in their toes, they will really remember how much they loved each other and how protective Will was of little Abby. It will be a little bit of magic for them as they grow older to reconnect with this special time of being a kid and living each moment as they happen. Everyone needs to capture their families, their kids, their love. Don’t wait, life is so short and precious.
