Boundary Bay Family Photos

Family Photos in Boundary Bay

Contest Winners!

So in January I ran a contest on Facebook to win a free family photo session with me……there were over 2000 entries and at the end of it all, this lovely Momma was the winner.  I have to say that when I arrived in Boundary Bay to meet them I was feeling like I was the contest winner.  It is so stunning there, the beach goes on forever with backdrops of Mt Baker and local mountains, and there are fields and trails with wild flowers, tall grass and hoppy bunnies.  Can you say photographer’s dream?!  The sun was setting into amazing light and I thought it could not get any better….until I met the Wagner family.  Seriously good looking family with tons of personality….I had to pinch myself 🙂  “These photos were going to be beautiful” was my thought….and of course I was right 😉  I had such a great time wondering around taking photos of these guys.  Noah, who I swear is a genius, was keen to doing most anything I asked, and his little sis Michaela was just as happy to follow his lead.  They were happy, smily, charming little creatures who made the shoot such a joy.  I usually find something I adore about every kid I shoot…..I am looking for their specialness so I can capture it, but these two were just so awesome…I would be happy to shoot them everyday 🙂  I know I am harping on about the kids, you might wonder about the parents…haha – well they were great too.  Super chill and dressed perfectly for their session….amazing.  Like I said, I felt like I was the contest winner getting to shoot this special family.  I really love sessions like this, perfect time of day, fun easy going family and a beautiful location.  Perfect!  Family photos are such a treasure and kinda fun to capture 😉  what are you waiting for?

Ambleside Beach Family Session

A lovely family session at Ambleside Beach

I was so happy when Carly (momma) agreed to have her latest family session down at Ambleside Beach in West Vancouver.  It is one of my favourite places to shoot family portraits, there is just so much to offer in the beauty of backgrounds.  We met bright and early and were able to get the beach mostly to ourselves; perfect for two little munchkins wanting to run and around and have some fun 🙂  I always want to the kids to be having fun when I am photographing them, if they’re not, it sure shows in the final images and during the session too.  I want to see their personalities and their quirks.  If they can run and play and be themselves then, I can capture who they are.  That special moment of being 2 or 4, 13 etc…..how they are in that moment in their lives.  It is so wonderful to look through images and see the little mischivious  glint in their eyes, a shy smile or a big belly laugh, it reminds you of things you might otherwise forget or let grow dim crowded by other memories.  Ed Sheeran has a great line in his song “Photograph”,  saying, “we keep this love in a photograph, we make these memories for ourselves……where time is forever still”.  I love that; not just as a photographer, but as a Mom, a sister, a daughter and a friend.  We capture these moments in images that we love at the time, and they can take our breathe away, but ten, twenty, thirty years down the road they will mean even more.  We will look back at them at laugh and cry and be reminded of who we were and who our family was at that point in time, we will cherish them and over all objects that own, these will be the most precious.   William and Abby will be able to look at these pictures and remember how they played at Ambleside Beach, how they laughed so hard at their parents playing and making animal noises; they will look at these images and remember the smell of the beach and the feeling of sand in  their toes, they will really remember how much they loved each other and how protective Will was of little Abby.  It will be a little bit of magic for them as they grow older to reconnect with this special time of being a kid and living each moment as they happen.  Everyone needs to capture their families, their kids, their love.  Don’t wait, life is so short and precious.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the images.

Pidwysocki

Family Pictures at Lighthouse Park

I met with the Pidwysocki family last weekend for some fun family pictures; we decided to meet at Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver.  Shooting at Lighthouse Park is always gorgeous, the greens are stunning, the water is close by and there are amazing boulders to hang our on that look fantastic in images.  Little Chloe and older brother Jack were excited to hit the trails and find the waterfront…..through the most detoured route we could find 😉    There were lots of moments to capture, from scaling rocks, balancing on downed trees to racing down the path, it was all fun.  Chloe is the same age as my little girl and just as spunky.  She was not going to let her big brother beat her at anything 🙂  We finally made it to the water and the view was well worth the walk.  It is simply stunning down on the waterfront.  You can see everything from downtown Vancouver to Vancouver Island; such a treat.  We took a few more family pictures and headed on our way.  The route back was a much more direct and simple making it a quick walk back.  My favourite moment of the session was when I asked Chloe to tell me the funniest word she knew and she said a**hole!  haha!  It certainly made her laugh like crazy 🙂

North Vancouver Photographer | Adam Woodall

Adam Woodall Video

So I am a photographer here on the North Shore….not a videographer…not even close, but the other night I decided to try the video function on my camera.  I had come from an event that I think was meant to be inspiring and motivating and I was feeling anything but….not sure if I had a poor attitude or what, but suddenly at the bar in North Vancouver,  sitting with good friends, listening to great music (thanks Adam Woodall) and drinking a few ciders, I suddenly wanted to pick up my camera and shoot.  Now I guess I could have taken stills, but it was pretty dark in the bar and I wanted it to be fun…not fussing with a flash…..I had to put my ISO to 5000 and shoot at 1.4 but I still wanted to try.  There are definitely a few focus issues but I kinda like it for my first try.  Adam being the amazing musician that he is, certainly makes up for my amateurness, so if the video starts to make you feel sea sick, just close your eyes and listen to his beautiful voice.  It was pretty cool trying something new with my camera and challenging too.  It did make me feel renewed and inspired thinking how I can incorporate a little video into my clients sessions….stay tuned for that as I need to practice a lot more. haha!  Thanks for taking the time to read this and check out my video.  Let me know what you think!  Sarah

Lyons | West Vancouver Family Photographer

photocrati galleryI am so lucky to be these guys’ family photographer!

The first time I photographed the Lyons twins they were about 6moths old and I fell in love with them then.  I think I was meant to be their photographer anyways, because first, we all are from West and North Vancouver and the boys and I share a birthday!  So cool 🙂  I have done a session with them every year around their birthday and it is so amazing to see them growing up into these cool little dudes.  The last few times they brought their golf clubs and both their swings are amazing…..these dudes are natural athletes for sure.  We did this photo session in West Vancouver at a park called John Lawson.  It is a pretty good spot for pictures, it has grass, beach and a wicked playground to play on and the boys had fun.  We even ventured out on the pier for a few shots.  It was a beautiful sunny morning and so was super nice to just hang out and catch the boys having fun being themselves.  I love that Kim and Jason, are super stylish and everyone always looks great; not in an obvious way, but in the way that looks effortlessly chic.  Everyone is coordinated and looking cool which translates well in the photographs.  I cannot wait to photograph this family next year and see how much the boys have grown and changed!  Thanks for picking me as your photographer 🙂  So grateful!!
