Bonderove|North Van

Family Session in North Vancouver

Vancouver and the North Shore have been super smoky lately due to the crazy wild fires that are burning in the surrounding areas; I was a bit concerned how this would affect family sessions and the images.  The Boneroves scheduled their family pictures a while back for when they were in town from Alberta, so we had no idea this was going to happen.  I shot them a year ago (here) and we had a beautiful blue sky, sunny day……it definitely was join to be different for this shoot.  Luckily the skies cleared  bit for our shoot so it actually was  a really pretty light and we could finally see the skyline of downtown Vancouver 🙂  We met at the Waterfront Park in North Vancouver and set down to play some games and capture the specialness of their family.  Tanner and Harlow were super keen to play so we played a lot of games…including who can knock over the photographer :0!  I’m not sure who won, but certainly not my back 😉  These guys were so polite and well behaved, it made shooting them super easy.  They even sat together and just laughed – thank you!!!  I have had a lot of brother & sister siblings lately and I love the bond that they have.  Big brothers just naturally look after their little sisters – it is so special.  These guys will have some cool moments that night to look back on and hang on their walls – you can see what their love looks like.

Ambleside Beach Family Session

A lovely family session at Ambleside Beach

I was so happy when Carly (momma) agreed to have her latest family session down at Ambleside Beach in West Vancouver.  It is one of my favourite places to shoot family portraits, there is just so much to offer in the beauty of backgrounds.  We met bright and early and were able to get the beach mostly to ourselves; perfect for two little munchkins wanting to run and around and have some fun 🙂  I always want to the kids to be having fun when I am photographing them, if they’re not, it sure shows in the final images and during the session too.  I want to see their personalities and their quirks.  If they can run and play and be themselves then, I can capture who they are.  That special moment of being 2 or 4, 13 etc…..how they are in that moment in their lives.  It is so wonderful to look through images and see the little mischivious  glint in their eyes, a shy smile or a big belly laugh, it reminds you of things you might otherwise forget or let grow dim crowded by other memories.  Ed Sheeran has a great line in his song “Photograph”,  saying, “we keep this love in a photograph, we make these memories for ourselves……where time is forever still”.  I love that; not just as a photographer, but as a Mom, a sister, a daughter and a friend.  We capture these moments in images that we love at the time, and they can take our breathe away, but ten, twenty, thirty years down the road they will mean even more.  We will look back at them at laugh and cry and be reminded of who we were and who our family was at that point in time, we will cherish them and over all objects that own, these will be the most precious.   William and Abby will be able to look at these pictures and remember how they played at Ambleside Beach, how they laughed so hard at their parents playing and making animal noises; they will look at these images and remember the smell of the beach and the feeling of sand in  their toes, they will really remember how much they loved each other and how protective Will was of little Abby.  It will be a little bit of magic for them as they grow older to reconnect with this special time of being a kid and living each moment as they happen.  Everyone needs to capture their families, their kids, their love.  Don’t wait, life is so short and precious.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the images.

North Vancouver Photos

photocrati galleryDeep Cove is the perfect spot for photos

Hey!  Thanks for stopping by 🙂  Today on the blog is a family that I have been shooting for many years now.  We started a tradition of shooting in Deep Cove every year and this year was no different. It is really cool that we can compare how the family changes from year to year in the same spot.  I bet you could even spot changes to Deep Cove from year to year in the pictures.  I love that in North Vancouver, there is a spot like this.  Deep Cove offers amazing views of the ocean, the mountains, the forest, the beach and even a little playground.  Families can wonder around and hang together as I capture the specialness that is them.  This was a special shoot for the Molina family as they are expecting their 2nd baby!  I just know big brother David is going to be the best at his new role – look at how sweet he is with the baby belly.  I would place bets that his future little sister will have him wrapped around her little finger and he will be pleased as punch about it.   David is truly the sweetest little man and so interested in everything.  He could have looked for crabs and salmon berries all day long, I’m sure.  I am so lucky to have this cool job taking photos on the North Shore and I thank you all for that.  Serious gratitude.

Maternity Pictures

Maternity Session in North Vancouver

I first met Kim a few years ago when she came to me for a few photography lessons – she wanted to be able to capture pictures her kids as they grow up.  I can see why – they are just the cutest little humans ever.  This is the second session I have had with them now and both have been super fun. The first we shot down at Ambleside on the beach almost exactly a year ago and had a great adventure.  This time we decided to meet at a more secluded spot that offered pretty flowers and wide open fields.  It was a great place to shoot, very simple and very pretty.  When I mentioned lupins, Kim was right in, she loves the colour purple and there certainly is no lack of purple flowers 🙂  Kim is due in about 2 weeks, so time was of the essence to get her maternity shoot done.  She looks so amazing, especially for how close she is to her due date!  2 weeks out for me meant I was a bloated mess with both of my kids….I am actually quite jealous of these Mommas who look so amazing during their pregnancy 😉  Anyways, we had a great shoot and Justin was the hero of the shoot.  He was such an amazing sport and so happy to do whatever I wanted to suggest.  Their great attitude made for some special images.  I hope you all enjoy them and thanks for checking them out.

Pidwysocki

Family Pictures at Lighthouse Park

I met with the Pidwysocki family last weekend for some fun family pictures; we decided to meet at Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver.  Shooting at Lighthouse Park is always gorgeous, the greens are stunning, the water is close by and there are amazing boulders to hang our on that look fantastic in images.  Little Chloe and older brother Jack were excited to hit the trails and find the waterfront…..through the most detoured route we could find 😉    There were lots of moments to capture, from scaling rocks, balancing on downed trees to racing down the path, it was all fun.  Chloe is the same age as my little girl and just as spunky.  She was not going to let her big brother beat her at anything 🙂  We finally made it to the water and the view was well worth the walk.  It is simply stunning down on the waterfront.  You can see everything from downtown Vancouver to Vancouver Island; such a treat.  We took a few more family pictures and headed on our way.  The route back was a much more direct and simple making it a quick walk back.  My favourite moment of the session was when I asked Chloe to tell me the funniest word she knew and she said a**hole!  haha!  It certainly made her laugh like crazy 🙂
